I speciliaze in newborn photography, but I do almost everything! I do family portraits, weddings, engagement photos, maternity sessions, child portraits, one year photos, milestone sessions, and more. I have a beautiful field out back of our studio where we can do beautiful outdoor portraits.
Newborn Session information and FAQ!
Newborn photos are some of the most treasured photos you will have in your child's life time.
When your new baby is born they are just so tiny and precious and they grow so incredibly fast it is almost impossible to remember when they were as tiny as they were when they were a newborn. The first few weeks of your new little one's life are so busy and chaotic and they go so very fast. That is why I love specializing in newborn sessions. Capturing these emotions, this time as you welcome your precious child into the world, before its gone forever is so special to me! I love capturing these moments for my clients for a lifetime.
When do I get newborn photos done?
The best newborn shots are taken within the first 5-12 days of life. This is when baby is still new and sleepy and wanting to be curled up and wrapped and they are able to be posed and moved gently for those precious shots. It all depends on baby though. If the baby is cluster feeding and not able to eat and get full right away, sometimes we like to wait toward the end of the 9-12 day time frame, until they are able to eat and get full, happy and content for their session.
Before 5 days is totally fine if you are up to it! I just recommend between 5-12 because the baby is still learning to eat and adjust to life on the outside! And Mama is still recovering, so between 5 and 10 days old are when they are sleepiest and usually getting on some kind of feeding schedule.
I know mommy is exhausted and still in pain and recovering from birth and sometimes a painful C-section during this time. My studio is small but cozy where mom (and dad!) can sit down, take a break and relax while the baby is being photographed. I will do my best to settle baby and get him/her to sleep before handing baby off to mom to feed. Unless baby is hungry and mom is exclusively breastfeeding I will give it my best to get baby settled so parents can take a much needed break and relax and baby can get used to being handled by me.
How do you schedule newborn sessions?
What we do for newborn sessions is we get you booked ( I kindly ask you fill out my booking form and I block out several spots within 2 weeks of your due date. Once the baby arrives you just let me know as soon as you get a chance and are settled with the baby and Ill give you a few dates for you to choose from for your session within the 12 day newborn time frame!
How long are newborn sessions?
Newborn sessions are usually around 3 hours long but it all depends on baby! If baby is a great sleeper and sleeps the entire time, we can get done in two hours! But if baby is awake, alert/ cluster feeding and/or fussy baby it may take even longer than three hours because of need of frequent feedings and changings. But if you book a newborn session with me, we will take as long as it takes to get the shots that you want, I am in no rush. Baby's safety and happiness is my number one priority!
I have taken several courses on newborn photography and newborn safety. I am infant/adult CPR and first aid/ first responder certified and certified as an instructor in these as well.
I have a collection of blankets, baby wraps and baby outfits/hats and headbands for you to choose from. You can also choose 3 to 4 scenes/props for baby to go in and as many outfits and wraps/hats/headbands as you would like. I am always expanding my newborn prop collection!
Common questions:
FAQ: Why should we choose you for our newborn session?
I have taken several photography courses including a week long 30 hour newborn photography course from world renowned newborn and family photographer Ana Brandt as well as a 3 day course from world renowned and awarded newborn photographer Kelly Brown. I have taken a 5 week class from local photographer with over 30 years experience and instructor, Kathy Peoples, where I also did a 4 month internship. I have become very proficient in the latest and best photo editing software such as Photoshop and Lightroom. I have invested thousands of dollars and time into my business, including education, the best equipment and props to be able to offer you the best quality images that I possibly can. I am constantly learning and striving to improve. I have built a studio in my home based on what I have learned to offer the best photography experience I can for you and your family.
Photography is an art and I treat it as such. I do not just take pictures and give them to you. I take an average of 300 images from each session. I then go through several times over and pick the BEST images for you. I take my time editing each image, typically spending more than 30 hours PER shoot editing your images (average of 45 minutes to an hour per image editing and artistically enhancing your images, to make them a lifelong heirloom to keep and treasure in your family. All of your full sized finished images are uploaded to your password protected gallery where you can view and download all full sized images you purchase onto your computers, tablets or smartphones!
When should I book my newborn session?
You can book your newborn session up to 6 months in advance. Prices are locked in once you book and you are not subject to price increases. Lindsey does book out an average of 2 months in advance so it is recommended you book your newborn sessions 3 months in advance or more.
What should I wear?
I always tell clients to think about what color pallets are in their nursery and in their house. What colors would look good in your house? Do you have mostly grays and whites? Wear white tops. Do you love neutral creams, tans and browns? Wear one of these colors. I do suggest NO patterns, images or prints on your tops, solid colors look best with newborn and family photos, as to not distract from faces and subjects. I LOVE neutral colors for family photos, creams, tans, beige, white, grays all photograph best. Boys look great Khakkis, or dark jeans with light tops. Girls look beautiful in long off white, cotton or lacey dresses. For mom, most of your shots with baby will be from the chest up so just wear something comfortable.
Light colored stripes are ok but no dense/thick stripes or patterns or logos/designs. Try and stick to no more than 3 colors in your families tops as more than that also begins to distract from the baby and your beautiful faces.
Can my current children come and be in the shots?
Of course! Sibling shots with the new baby are precious. I usually start a session with family shots and sibling shots. The sibling shots will only take about 30 minutes and we will start the session with them. If possible it is recommended that another parent or family member or friend take home your other children once we are finished with family and sibling shots so we can create a calm and stress free environment to finish with some beautiful baby shots. If you are unable to drive separately or don't want to, there are plenty of places for Dad and/or a family member/friend to take your other children while we finish up with them. There is a mall down the road from us, Chic Filet, Toys R Us, a McDonalds with a play place, and a playground if its nice out! A newborn session can last well over 3 hours and it is too long for children to wait in my small studio to finish a newborn session. My full attention must be on baby for safety purposes! If there is no one to bring your children separately, I can hire an assistant to assist and help with your other children for an extra $70.
What is in your studio?
In my studio, I have everything you need for your shoot. This includes; lighting, backdrop stands, different color backdrops, a wide collections of props, blankets, hats, headbands, outfits and wraps for baby. I also have a changing table for baby, a space heater, a sound machine and a lavender oil diffuser to make the studio as peaceful and calm as possible. Dress cool, I keep the room around 75/77 degrees so that your new baby is warm and comfortable! You will have somewhere to take a break from the warm room if needed! Theres a guest bathroom down the hall and a private guest room to feed your baby if you would like privacy when breastfeeding.
Should I bring a bottle for baby?
If possible, yes. If you are only breast-feeding you will have a private place to breast-feed. If you would like pictures of you feeding baby, these become very treasured pictures. Imagine being able to show your son or daughter in 15 years a picture of you breast-feeding them as a newborn ❤️ These pictures are for your eyes only of course. If you are breast-feeding but do not want pictures of this, you will have a private guestroom where you can privately feed as often as needed. If you are pumping or feeding formula, PLEASE bring at least one bottle. If baby is fussy, sometimes we can just give them a quick feeding and it will settle them right down without having to move them. I can have a bowl with hot water to warm babies bottle if needed!
What else should I bring?
If its ok for your baby to use a Pacifier, please bring one! This is an easy way to settle baby until right before I photograph them.
- diapers and wipes, you will have somewhere to change the baby as well.
-wedding rings if you cant fit it yet for rings and baby toes pictures!
- if you have a specific prop, blanket, hat, or outfit that you want in photos, feel free to bring them. You can have 3 to 4 outfit changes for baby. 2 outfit changes for you and siblings. I have tons of outfits and wraps so it is not necessary for you to bring any clothes at all for baby unless there is something you would like in the photos! Sometimes sweet personal items are great to have in a picture, like a knitted blanket or bonnet or stuffed animal from a grandparent.
What safety courses have you taken so I know to trust you with my precious newborn?
I am infant CPR/first responder/first aid/ first responder certified and am a certified instructor in all of these. I have also taken several newborn safety classes and newborn photography classes from some of the most renowned newborn photographers in the world, including Kelly Brown and Ana Brandt. While getting great shots is my goal, safety is always NUMBER one priority, and you can trust baby is safe and secure in my care.
My baby and I have both broken out, have dry and blotchy skin, I am still full of fluid and puffy and I don't want to be in pictures!
YES YOU DO. You are all perfect. You have both just been through one of the most bodily traumatic experiences of your life. I have taken several course in photoshop and remove all redness, blemishes, uneven skin tones, and I can edit as much as you would like so that you look and feel your absolute best in your precious new family photos. Take a deep breath, and don't worry anything but enjoying your beautiful new addition and documenting their arrival and all the emotions that are flowing through you during this beautiful time! I will take care of the rest :)
Why do I not get all of the photos that you take?
For me, photography is an art. Only about 30% of it comes from the camera. The other 50% happens in "post" where I edit your images with the latest and best editing programs. I spend an average of 45 minutes on EACH image for your gallery, sometimes over an hour perfecting the photo so that you absolutely love the final image. Because of this, I offer 25 images with your newborn sessions. My goal is for you to love each one of your images so much that you want to print them out, blow them up, make an album and have them proudly displayed in your home for a lifetime. Instead of having a bunch of images that you will never do anything with sit on a CD. These days, you can take a ton of decent photos on your iphone. However, if you want quality images you can blow up and hang on your wall of your newborn, your babies milestones, precious moments and great family photos that you can blow up and keep forever, you hire a photographer! That is my job and my goal to provide lasting memories and quality images that you will cherish for a lifetime. I upload your proof gallery to a private album and you choose your pictures that you want.
How do I choose prints?
Depending on whatever package you get and how many images you purchase all of those images will be edited and posted to a private album with password for you to view. You can then choose which photos you want by their file names and which sizes you want printed from there!
How long does it take to get my images and prints?
Because I can spend up to 30 hours editing your shoot, it will take around 2-3 weeks maximum to finish your gallery. Your sneak peak will be up on Facebook within 4 days of your shoot. You can expect to receive your digital images uploaded to your site within 2-3 weeks at the latest, and then prints will be shipped as soon as you order them, they are ordered and received (usually within another week) if you need images from your sneak peak quicker than 2-3 weeks for birth annoucnemtns or anything I can upload a few of the finished images to your gallery to download after your sneak peak is posted, just let me know and I can make that happen.
When is payment due?
A deposit is due at booking, there are NO penalties or fees for rescheduling due to emergencies, health concerns or weather (if shooting outside). The rest of your payment is due at your session. I accept cash, check, paypal or venmo.
